About the product
What are Balance Pads?
Equimove Balance Pads are compact, high-density foam pads for your horse to stand on during short training sessions. Their slightly unstable surface triggers continuous micro-corrections which activates deep stabilising muscles that regular work on firm ground simply cannot reach.
Compact & springy
Dense foam, easy to use anywhere.
Micro-corrections
Unstable surface activates deep stabilisers.
Proprioception
Stimulates nerve endings & body awareness.
Safe & accessible
Suitable for all sizes, weights & breeds.

Evidence-based benefits
5 science-backed reasons to start
Balance Pads build strength and coordination, support safe rehabilitation, keep joints supple, and give many horses a welcome mental reset.

Strengthens core muscles
The springy, unstable surface keeps deep back muscles (including them. multifidus) and abdominal muscles continuously activated. This supports development around the spine and joints for a more stable posture.
Cathcart J. et al. (2024). Journal of Equine Rehabilitation. doi:10.1016/j.eqre.2024.100006

Improves body awareness (proprioception)
Balance training on an unstable surface trains the nervous system to react faster and move more smoothly, making your horse steadier on turns, uneven ground, and less prone to stumbling.
Sánchez-Barbadora M. et al. (2025). Applied Sciences 15(4):1807.

Maintains supple joints
Gentle rocking on balance pads encourages small, controlled joint movements helping to maintain flexibility and support fluid, supple movement throughout the body.
Kadam S., Pazare S. & Iyer S. (2022). Bull Fac Phys Ther 27:17.
Promotes relaxation
Balancing on the pads helps horses focus and release tension, often visible through licking, chewing, or deep sighs. Even nervous horses become noticeably calmer after just a few minutes.
Beckstett A. (2021). The Horse. thehorse.com/197422
Supports safe rehabilitation
In cases of tendon strain or back problems, balance pad exercises gently reload muscles and tissues without hard concussive shock — a valuable vet-guided rehab tool.

Is your horse a candidate?
How to recognise a weak core
A horse won't tell you its deep back muscles are underperforming, but its body language will.

Posture
Hollow back, loss of topline, visible spine when viewed from behind.

Movement
Stiffness, difficulty collecting, loss of balance in turns or canter transitions.

Stance
Trouble standing square; tends to sink or load one hind leg more than the other.

Behaviour
Restlessness when saddling or grooming; signs of resistance under saddle.
These are general guidelines. For a confirmed diagnosis and personalised programme, consult your equine veterinarian.

Getting started
How to use the Balance Pads
Proper preparation keeps your horse comfortable and gets the most from every session.
-
Choose the right surface
Flat, clean, non-slip stable aisle, grooming area, or arena with firm footing.
-
Prepare the hooves
Dry hooves on dry pads only. Check for sharp edges - file if needed.
-
Always use a helper
Loose lead rope so your horse can step off freely. Never tie. Never leave unsupervised.
-
Let your horse adjust
Stepping off is normal. Guide back gently - never force.
-
Respect frequency & duration
3–5× per week, max 5 minutes per session.
-
Watch for relaxation cues
Licking, chewing & slow breathing = the session is working.
💡 Pro tip: Use pads before riding or lunging. After training, tired muscles can't hold posture well.
