Equine Fertility & Nutrition — The Veterinarian Guide

Top-tier breeding starts with top-tier feeding

Every product in this collection was selected by our veterinary team to support your mare through each phase of the breeding journey — from pre-breeding to weaning. Here's why each one matters.

Phase 1 — Fertility Foundation

Before covering, the goal is a mare in optimal body condition (BCS 5–6) with a well-balanced diet. Nutritional deficiencies at this stage directly impair ovulation quality and embryo survival.

Phase 2 — Early to Mid Pregnancy (Months 1–8)

Keep the diet stable. From month 4, the expanding uterus compresses the hindgut — the microbiome needs active support to prevent colic risk and maintain nutrient absorption for the developing foal.

Phase 3 — Late Pregnancy (Months 9–11)

75% of the foal's birth weight is gained in the final trimester. Energy and mineral needs surge. The stomach is compressed — smaller, denser meals are essential. A mineral deficiency here is directly linked to developmental orthopaedic disease in foals.

Phase 4 — Lactation (Months 1–4 post-foaling)

Lactation is the most energy-demanding phase of a mare's life — caloric needs effectively double in the first 3–4 months. Inadequate nutrition causes rapid body condition loss, poor milk quality, and slower foal growth. Omega-3 from Grow & Glow supports foal brain and retinal development via the milk.
