What stands out to me about Fresh & Fertile is the effect it has when it is given a few months before breeding. In my practice, I often see mares conceive more easily, with strong embryos and a healthy uterine lining. It is not intended as a last resort, but as a way to make sure the mare is optimally prepared for pregnancy. Starting early with the right prenatal support simply lays the best possible foundation.

MULTI-TARGET FERTILITY SUPPORT

How Fresh & Fertile supports fertility from cycle to conception

Successful breeding starts long before conception. Fresh & Fertile takes a multi-target approach that supports the biological processes behind fertility, helping mares stay hormonally balanced, reproductively supported and better prepared for breeding.

  1. It supports normal hormonal balance throughout the cycle, which is important for reproductive function as well as for mares that become more sensitive or moody during hormonal fluctuations.
  2. It supports a healthy uterine environment, helping the womb stay in good condition for conception, implantation and embryo retention.
  3. It supports egg maturation and healthy cell division in the earliest stages of development, when nutritional support plays an important role in fertility and early pregnancy.

In a clinical trial in collaboration with Ghent University and veterinarian Eileen Geerinck Fresh & Fertile had a significant positive effect on embryo development in a clinical trial with more than 30 mares.

What to expect

Start 3 months before insemination for best results

Nutritional support for hormonal balance, uterine health and early embryo development

  1. WEEKS 1 – 4

    Oestrogen metabolism support begins

DIM (diindolylmethane) from broccoli powder begins supporting healthy oestrogen metabolism pathways in the liver, directing metabolite production towards less proliferative pathways. This helps maintain a normal uterine environment. (Ref: Bradlow et al., 1999)

  2. WEEKS 4 – 8

    Liver detoxification & methylation

Methyldonors — choline, folate, B12 and betaine — support the second phase of hepatic detoxification, facilitating complete hormone clearance. Early improvement in coat quality and general vitality is often noticed as liver function is supported. (Ref: Zeisel & da Costa, 2009)

  3. WEEKS 8 – 12

    Hormonal balance & uterine preparation

Flaxseed lignans contribute to natural modulation of aromatase activity, supporting a balanced oestrogen environment. Vitamin E and L-cysteine protect reproductive cells from oxidative stress ahead of the breeding season. (Ref: Adlercreutz, 2007)

  4. WEEK 12+ (breeding & gestation)

    Reproductive cell & embryo support

Full nutritional support is now established. Folate and B12 are essential for normal cell division in early embryo development. Continued use during pregnancy supports methylation pathways critical for healthy foetal development.

Key Ingredients

Nature holds the power. Science unlocks it.

Every ingredient is chosen based on documented mechanisms of action and peer-reviewed evidence. Select a compound below to go deeper.

Betaine

Trimethylglycine

Betaine, also known as trimethylglycine, is a naturally occurring compound found in plants such as sugar beet. It plays an important role in one-carbon metabolism by acting as a methyl donor in biochemical reactions that help convert homocysteine into methionine. By supporting this pathway, betaine contributes to maintaining normal homocysteine levels and healthy cellular metabolism (Antioxidants, 2025).

Methylation processes are essential for the synthesis and regulation of many biological molecules, including those involved in hormone signaling and reproductive physiology. Adequate methyl donor availability can therefore contribute to maintaining hormonal balance and metabolic stability in breeding animals.

In broodmares, maintaining balanced metabolic and hormonal processes is important before breeding and during pregnancy, when nutrient demands increase to support both the mare and the developing foal. For this reason, betaine is sometimes included in nutritional strategies aimed at supporting reproductive nutrition and fertility (Demin Cai, 2014).

Choline chloride

Choline chloride

Choline is an essential nutrient involved in several important physiological processes in animals. One of its key roles is serving as a precursor for phosphatidylcholine, a major phospholipid that forms part of cell membranes and contributes to maintaining normal cellular structure and function.

Choline is also involved in lipid metabolism. It helps transport fats within the body by supporting the formation of lipoproteins, which are responsible for moving lipids through the bloodstream. Proper lipid metabolism is important for maintaining normal metabolic balance and supporting the function of organs involved in nutrient processing. Kenny et. al., 2025

In addition, choline contributes to the synthesis of acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter involved in nerve signaling. Through these roles in cell membrane structure, metabolism, and nervous system function, choline supports normal physiological processes in growing animals as well as in animals with higher nutritional demands. Nutrients, 2020

Because animals cannot always produce sufficient amounts themselves, choline is commonly included in complete nutritional formulations to support cellular health, metabolic balance, and overall physiological function.

Primary benefit

Cellular metabolism and nutrient utilization support

Vitamin E

Natural Vitamin E

Vitamin E (D-alpha-tocopherol) is an essential fat-soluble antioxidant that helps protect cell membranes from oxidative stress. Because these membranes are rich in fatty acids, they are particularly sensitive to oxidative damage, making antioxidant protection important for normal cellular function (ScienceDirect, 2014).

Vitamin E plays an important role in maintaining muscle cell integrity and supports normal nerve function. It also contributes to immune function and helps maintain healthy tissues such as skin and coat (Fagan, 2018).

Horses naturally obtain vitamin E from fresh grass, but intake can be limited when pasture access is restricted, making additional supply relevant (University of California, 2019).

Vitamin E can occur in different forms (tocopherols), each with specific antioxidant properties. A combination of these forms provides broader antioxidant support compared to a single form alone. As a fat-soluble vitamin, delivering vitamin E in an oil-based form supports its natural absorption (Quigley, 2021).

Primary benefit

Antioxidant support for cellular, muscle, and immune health

Vitamin B12

Cobalamin

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is a water-soluble vitamin that plays an essential role in energy metabolism and cellular function. It participates in enzymatic reactions involved in DNA synthesis and the formation of red blood cells, which are important for oxygen transport and overall vitality.

Vitamin B12 works closely together with folate in one-carbon metabolism, a pathway involved in the synthesis van nucleic acids and other essential biological molecules. These processes support cellular growth, tissue maintenance, and overall metabolic balance.

In addition, vitamin B12 contributes to normal nervous system function and is involved in pathways linked to mood regulation. Research shows that low vitamin B12 levels are associated with changes in mood and increased signs of stress-related conditions such as anxiety and depression. Maintaining adequate levels therefore supports overall mental balance and resilience (Todorov et al., 2017 ; Stover, 2004; Curely, 2025).

Primary benefit

Energy metabolism and cellular development support

Cysteine

L-Cysteine

L-cysteine is a sulfur-containing amino acid that plays an important role in cellular metabolism and antioxidant defense. It is a key precursor for the synthesis of glutathione, one of the body’s most important intracellular antioxidants.

Glutathione participates in biochemical pathways involved in protecting cells from oxidative stress and supporting normal detoxification processes. Because the liver plays a central role in these metabolic pathways, nutrients involved in glutathione synthesis are often included in nutritional strategies aimed at supporting liver function and metabolic balance.

In animals exposed to environmental stressors, dietary changes, or recovery from illness, maintaining adequate antioxidant capacity can help support normal physiological resilience and cellular health.

Primary benefit

Antioxidant and detoxification support

Broccoli (and broccoli sprouts)

Brassica oleracea var. italica

Broccoli and especially broccoli sprouts provide precursors to sulforaphane, a plant compound known for activating the body’s natural “cell protection” systems. This matters for longevity support because sulforaphane helps switch on pathways linked to healthy aging, including antioxidant defenses and normal cell repair processes.

It can also support hormonal health indirectly by promoting healthy liver detox activity, which is important for how the body processes and clears hormones. In animals, research has shown that sulforaphane from broccoli sprout supplements is absorbed and converted into measurable metabolites after oral intake, meaning they can actually use these compounds. Curran KM et al., 2018Kubo E et al., 2017; Verhelst, 2025

Sprouts

Oatmeal

Avena sativa

Oatmeal derived from oats (Avena sativa) provides a dense source of essential nutrients including zinc, iron, and B vitamins (European Journal of Nutrition). These micronutrients play important roles in metabolic pathways involved in normal hormone production and reproductive physiology.

Zinc and iron contribute to enzymatic processes that are important for cellular metabolism and tissue development, while B vitamins support energy metabolism and the synthesis of hormones and signaling molecules. Maintaining adequate levels of these nutrients is particularly important for broodmares before breeding and during pregnancy, when nutrient demands increase to support both the mare and the developing foal. (Kelleher, S.L., 2009)

Because of its balanced nutritional profile and high digestibility, oatmeal is often included in equine breeding rations to help maintain metabolic balance and support overall reproductive nutrition.

A team of experts, led by our Co-Founder and Veterinarian Valérie De Clerck, together with a biochemist and a pharmacology expert.

We source ingredients from top-quality suppliers worldwide. Then we manufacture the final products in Belgium in ISO 22000, FCA (GMP+) and bio-certified facilities.

Up to 99% natural. Whenever we can, we choose natural ingredients. In the rare cases where a natural option is virtually impossible, we use a synthetic alternative.

Yes. Curafyt was founded by Veterinarian Valérie De Clerck and is now recommended by over 1000+ veterinarians. All our formulas are developed from real veterinary insights and in close co-development with vets, ensuring they are trusted and used in daily practice.

Yes. Fresh & Fertile is specifically formulated to support mares with fertility challenges by improving uterine health and hormonal balance, both of which are essential for successful conception. If your mare is experiencing ongoing difficulty getting pregnant, we recommend consulting your veterinarian to rule out underlying medical issues.

Fresh & Fertile supports overall hormonal balance and reproductive function, which are key factors in healthy ovulation and follicle development.

Yes. Many mares show behavioural changes linked to hormonal fluctuations. By supporting hormonal balance, Fresh&Fertile can help reduce moodiness, tension, and stress-related behaviour. If these changes mainly appear around her cycle or during the breeding season, hormones are likely involved. If the behaviour also continues through winter or outside of her cycling period, it is less likely to be hormone-related and we recommend looking into other possible causes as well.

Yes. The formula is based on scientific literature and developed in collaboration with veterinary experts. Its positive effect was also demonstrated in a clinical field study in 20 mares, conducted by veterinarian Eileen Geerinckx in collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Ghent and Hof ter Leeuwe, where participating mares showed improved fertility results.

For best results, we recommend using Fresh & Fertile for at least 3 months. Some mares need consistent support over a longer period to fully rebalance.

The earlier you start, the better. For optimal results, we recommend starting at least 3 months before breeding, allowing the body enough time to respond and rebalance.

Yes. Fresh & Fertile can safely be continued during pregnancy and provides nutritional support for both the mare and the developing foal.

Yes. Fresh & Fertile is particularly valuable for older mares, as it provides additional support for reproductive function, similar to a prenatal support formula.

In most cases, yes. Fresh & Fertile is a nutritional supplement and is generally safe to combine with veterinary treatments. If your mare is on specific medication, we recommend checking with your veterinarian.

No. Regumate is a hormonal medication that actively suppresses your mare’s cycle, while Fresh & Fertile is a natural nutritional supplement that supports the body’s own hormonal balance.

You can compare it to humans: Regumate works like the contraceptive pill, overriding the natural cycle, whereas Fresh & Fertile supports the body in regulating its cycle naturally.

Fresh & Fertile does not replace veterinary medication when this is required, but it can be used to support mares in a more natural way or alongside a broader fertility approach.

Yes. Fresh & Fertile is suitable for use in a clean sport context.
