Why this shampoo works for dogs with sensitive skin

We Swabbed. We Washed. We Tested.

We didn’t just assume Shine & Shine Shampoo was gentle. We tested it. First, we took a swab from the dog’s skin. Then we washed the skin with Shine & Shine Shampoo and took another swab afterwards.

The lab results showed that Shine & Shine cleans the coat without damaging the skin microbiome, the natural protective layer that helps keep the skin balanced and resilient.

Many regular shampoos can strip or disturb this layer, and it can take up to 7 days for the skin microbiome to recover. That’s why Shine & Shine is designed to wash effectively, while still respecting your dog’s skin.

Key Ingredients

Nature holds the power. Science unlocks it.

Every ingredient is chosen based on documented mechanisms of action and peer-reviewed evidence. Select a compound below to go deeper.

Disodium cocoyl glutamate

Disodium cocoyl glutamate

Disodium cocoyl glutamate is a gentle, amino acid-based surfactant derived from coconut fatty acids and glutamic acid. It is known for its mild cleansing properties and skin-friendly profile.

Unlike harsher cleansers, it effectively removes dirt and impurities without disrupting the skin’s natural barrier or microbiome. This helps maintain skin comfort and prevents dryness or irritation.

Because of its gentle nature, it is particularly suitable for sensitive skin and for frequent use, including in young animals (Bezerra, 2023; Su, 2025).

Bisabolol

Alpha-bisabolol

Bisabolol is a naturally occurring compound commonly derived from chamomile. It is widely used in skincare formulations for its soothing properties and its ability to support sensitive or irritated skin.

It helps maintain skin comfort by supporting the skin’s natural balance and reducing signs of irritation. This makes it particularly useful in formulations designed for delicate or reactive skin (Nutrients, 2022).

Because of its gentle and calming nature, bisabolol is well suited for use in products intended for frequent use or for animals with sensitive skin, including young animals.

Lauryl glucoside

Lauryl glucoside

Lauryl glucoside is a mild, non-ionic surfactant derived from plant-based sugars and fatty alcohols. It is widely used in gentle formulations, including baby shampoos, because of its soft cleansing properties.

Unlike harsher surfactants, lauryl glucoside cleans the skin and coat without stripping natural oils. Maintaining these natural oils is important for preserving the skin barrier and preventing dryness or irritation.

Because of its gentle nature, lauryl glucoside is particularly suitable for animals with sensitive skin, as well as for young animals such as foals and puppies.

Inulin

Inulin

Inulin is a natural plant-derived polysaccharide commonly extracted from chicory root. In topical applications, it is valued for its ability to help maintain skin hydration and support the natural skin barrier.

Inulin can also act as a prebiotic for the skin microbiome, supporting beneficial microorganisms that contribute to a balanced skin environment. A healthy microbiome plays an important role in maintaining skin comfort and resilience.

Because of these properties, inulin helps support soft, hydrated skin and contributes to overall skin wellbeing, even in sensitive animals (Pasqualetti, 2014; Qin, 2023).

Rapeseed (canola) oil

Brassica campestris

Brassica campestris oil, commonly known as rapeseed or canola oil, is a plant-derived oil rich in essential fatty acids such as omega-3 and omega-6. These fatty acids play an important role in maintaining healthy skin and supporting a soft, shiny coat.

Essential fatty acids contribute to the structure of cell membranes and support the skin’s natural barrier function. A well-functioning skin barrier helps maintain hydration and overall skin condition.

In addition, these fatty acids are involved in normal metabolic processes and contribute to overall physiological balance, making them an important part of a complete and balanced diet for dogs and cats.

Lactic acid

Lactic acid

Lactic acid is a naturally occurring organic acid that plays a role in maintaining the skin’s natural pH balance. A balanced pH is important for preserving the skin barrier and supporting a healthy skin environment.

It also contributes to the skin’s natural renewal process, helping maintain smooth and healthy skin.

By supporting pH balance and skin function, lactic acid helps maintain overall skin health and coat condition.

Coconut oil

Cocos nucifera

Coconut oil is rich in medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), a type of fat that is absorbed and used for energy more rapidly than many long-chain fats. This makes it a practicaloptionwhen you want an easy-to-use calorie boost for horses without the sugar rush often associated with concentrates. Research suggests that MCT-based diets can shift how the body uses fuel, supporting quick energy availability. Coconut oil may also support skin health. Craig et al., 2003
