when to use

Detox & Drain is perfect for...

  • sport horses under high metabolic pressure

sport horses under high metabolic pressure

Ideal for horses in regular training or competition, where a higher metabolic load can increase waste buildup and put extra pressure on the liver.

  • horses that graze outdoors frequently

    horses that graze outdoors frequently

A strong fit for horses exposed to more environmental and pasture-related challenges, where regular liver support can help during periods of higher toxic load.

  • horses recovering from illness or medication

horses recovering from illness or medication

Especially useful after periods of illness or treatments such as antibiotics or anti-inflammatories, when extra liver support can help the horse recover more smoothly.

LIVER DETOX & METABOLIC SUPPORT

Support liver function where it matters most

Detox & Drain supports the liver from multiple angles, helping it do the jobs it is responsible for every day: processing waste, supporting metabolism and protecting healthy liver tissue.

It helps by:

  • supporting the liver’s normal detoxification function
  • supporting healthy liver cells and natural repair processes
  • supporting normal sugar and fat metabolism
  • helping protect cells against oxidative stress with antioxidant support

Unlike single-focus detox products, Detox & Drain supports both detoxification capacity and metabolic function. That makes it especially relevant when the liver is dealing with seasonal changes, grazing, medication periods or the demands of sport.

What to expect

With consistent daily use

Nutritional support for liver function, gut barrier and natural detoxification

  1. DAYS 1 – 7

    Gut barrier support begins

Inactivated yeast fractions (mannans and β-glucans) contribute to intestinal barrier integrity and a stable gut environment from the first days of use — without fermenting in the hindgut. (Ref: Julliand et al., 2018; Perricone et al., 2022)

  2. WEEKS 1 – 3

    Liver-supportive ingredients activate

Hepatoprotective botanicals begin contributing to normal liver function and phase I/II detoxification pathways. Antioxidant ingredients support cellular protection during detoxification.

  3. WEEKS 3 – 6

Skin & coat reflect improved liver support

As nutritional support for liver function is established, improved coat sheen and skin clarity are commonly noticed — consistent with the liver's role in nutrient metabolism and waste clearance.

  4. WEEKS 6 – 8+

    Sustained detoxification support

Continued long-term use maintains the nutritional foundation for natural detoxification, gut barrier integrity and immune balance. Ideal for horses exposed to seasonal or environmental detoxification challenges.

Key Ingredients

Nature holds the power. Science unlocks it.

Every ingredient is chosen based on documented mechanisms of action and peer-reviewed evidence. Select a compound below to go deeper.

Milk thistle

Silybum marianum

Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) is a botanical valued in equine nutrition for its antioxidant properties and its role in supporting liver function. Its active compounds, collectively known as silymarin, help protect cells against oxidative stress and contribute to maintaining normal metabolic processes.

In horses, research shows that supplementation with milk thistle-derived ingredients can support recovery after exercise. Horses receiving milk thistle showed a faster return of cortisol levels to baseline following physical exertion, indicating support for normal physiological recovery.

In vitro studies using equine cells demonstrate that compounds from milk thistle can modulate oxidative activity in immune cells, supporting normal inflammatory balance. Additional laboratory research on hoof tissue suggests that milk thistle extract may help protect structural integrity under certain stress conditions, indicating a supportive role in maintaining hoof health.

Overall, milk thistle is associated with supporting liver function, metabolic balance, and general resilience in horses, particularly in animals exposed to physical demands or dietary challenges (Tedesco & Guerrini, 2023; Loguercio & Festi, 2011; Hackett et al., 2012).

Dandelion

Taraxacum officinale

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is a botanical plant traditionally used in herbal nutrition for its supportive effects on digestion and liver metabolism. The plant contains a variety of bioactive compounds including polyphenols, sesquiterpene lactones, and bitter compounds that interact with digestive processes (ScienceDirect).

These compounds have been studied for their ability to support bile production and digestive activity, processes that are closely linked to liver metabolism and nutrient processing. Proper bile flow is important for fat digestion and for maintaining normal metabolic balance in the body (Veterinary Herbal Medicine, 2007).

Because of its traditional use and nutritional composition, dandelion is sometimes included in equine formulations aimed at supporting digestive function, metabolic balance, and overall physiological resilience.

Chlorella (microalgae) - Broken Cell Wall

Chlorella vulgaris

Chlorella is a nutrient-dense freshwater microalgae often described as a “superfood” because it packs a lot of nutrition into a small serving. It naturally provides high-quality protein, a wide range of vitamins and minerals, and antioxidant pigments such as chlorophyll and carotenoids that support overall vitality. Chlorella is also valued for gentle daily support of digestion and normal detox pathways by helping bind certain compounds in the gut and promoting a balanced intestinal environment. Frontiers

Cysteine

L-Cysteine

L-cysteine is a sulfur-containing amino acid that plays an important role in cellular metabolism and antioxidant defense. It is a key precursor for the synthesis of glutathione, one of the body’s most important intracellular antioxidants.

Glutathione participates in biochemical pathways involved in protecting cells from oxidative stress and supporting normal detoxification processes. Because the liver plays a central role in these metabolic pathways, nutrients involved in glutathione synthesis are often included in nutritional strategies aimed at supporting liver function and metabolic balance.

In animals exposed to environmental stressors, dietary changes, or recovery from illness, maintaining adequate antioxidant capacity can help support normal physiological resilience and cellular health.

Ginger

Zingiber officinale

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a botanical root widely used in nutritional and herbal formulations for its bioactive compounds, including gingerols and shogaols. These compounds have been studied for their role in supporting digestive and metabolic processes.

In the digestive system, ginger is associated with supporting normal gastric activity and digestive comfort. A well-functioning digestive system is important for nutrient absorption and maintaining a balanced gut environment, which is especially relevant for animals with sensitive digestion.

Ginger is also linked to processes involved in bile production and flow. Bile plays a key role in digestion and contributes to the processing of dietary fats and metabolic by-products. Supporting these natural processes helps maintain normal liver and digestive function (Williams & Lamprecht, 2008; BenthamDirect).

Rhizome (root-like stem)

Brewer’s yeast (inactive)

Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Brewer’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) is a functional yeast ingredient naturally rich in nutrients and yeast-derived compounds such as beta-glucans, mannan-oligosaccharides, and fermentation metabolites. These components are studied for their role in supporting digestive health, immune function, and overall wellbeing in dogs.

In canine studies, Saccharomyces cerevisiae products have been shown to positively influence the gut microbiota, including increased beneficial bacteria such as Bifidobacterium, while also supporting immune markers and normal inflammatory balance.

Research in dogs also links Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation products to skin and coat support, including effects on skin sebum, antioxidant status, and immune responses. This makes brewer’s yeast especially relevant in formulations aimed at supporting gut health, skin resilience, and coat quality (Jouany et al., 2009; Davenport, 2023; Lin, 2019; Wilson, 2022).

MSM

Methylsulfonylmethane

MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is an organic sulfur compound that plays an important role in several physiological processes in the body. Sulfur is a key building block of amino acids and structural proteins such as keratin and collagen, which contribute to the strength and integrity of connective tissues including hooves, joints, skin, and tendons.

Through this structural role, MSM supports tissue quality and resilience, which is relevant for maintaining strong hooves and healthy joints, especially in horses exposed to physical stress or metabolic challenges.

In addition, sulfur is involved in metabolic pathways linked to the body’s antioxidant systems. These pathways support the processing of metabolic by-products and contribute to maintaining normal cellular balance. This makes MSM relevant in nutritional strategies aimed at supporting liver function, digestion, and overall metabolic stability.

Because of its dual role in both structural support and metabolic processes, MSM contributes to maintaining connective tissue health, digestive balance, and overall physiological resilience (Jiao et al., 2025; Marañón et al., 2008; Kalman, 2012).
