I've used Smooth & Supple with my own 13-year-old dog and a 15.5-year-old patient. Both were noticeably stiffer, but after using it I saw a clear improvement: smoother movement and getting up more easily. When we stopped the course, the effect faded quickly, so ongoing support is key for me!

SMARTER SUPPORT FOR JOINTS

Why Smooth & Supple Works

When a dog becomes stiffer, the issue is rarely just “the joints.” Mobility also depends on cartilage support, connective tissue strength, circulation and how well the body recovers after strain. Smooth & Supple supports these systems together, so your dog gets broader mobility support instead of a narrow one-angle formula.

It works through 4 connected pathways:

1. Cartilage and joint support
Helps provide the nutritional support needed to maintain healthy cartilage and joint structure.

2. Flexible movement
Supports everyday flexibility, so movement feels smoother and more comfortable.

3. Recovery support
Supports healthy circulation and recovery after activity, which matters for dogs that feel stiffer after walks or exercise.

4. Long-term mobility resilience
By supporting joints, bones and connective tissues together, it helps dogs stay more comfortable as they age.

The result is a dog that gets up more easily, moves more smoothly and keeps enjoying daily walks with greater comfort.

What to expect

With consistent daily use

Plant-based joint and connective tissue support for dogs

  1. DAYS 1 – 14

    Anti-inflammatory herbs begin

Boswellia serrata and turmeric begin contributing to normal COX-2 and 5-LOX modulation, supporting the body's natural inflammatory response in joints and soft tissues. Blackcurrant adds antioxidant support from the first days. (Ref: Kimmatkar et al., 2003; Pearson et al., 2011)

  2. WEEKS 2 – 4

    Connective tissue building blocks

MSM (organic sulphur) and silicon from horsetail provide structural building blocks for cartilage, tendons and ligaments. Early improvement in ease of movement may be noticed, especially in dogs that are stiff after rest. (Ref: Usha & Naidu, 2004; Farinon et al., 2013)

  3. WEEKS 4 – 8

    Mobility & circulation support

Meadowsweet and horse chestnut support healthy microcirculation to joint tissues. Continued Boswellia and MSM support contribute to more comfortable, fluid movement across daily activity. (Ref: Dudek-Makuch & Matur, 2015)

  4. WEEKS 8 – 12+

    Sustained joint support

Cumulative connective tissue support is established. Senior dogs and dogs with age-related stiffness typically show the most pronounced results with continued long-term use.

Horse Chestnut

Aesculus hippocastanum

Aesculus hippocastanum (horse chestnut) powder contains several plant compounds, with aescin (β-escin) among the most studied. It is used to support microcirculation in small blood vessels and help tissues retain less excess fluid by making tiny vessels less permeable, or less leaky, so less fluid moves into surrounding tissue. By supporting fluid balance and a healthy inflammatory response around tissues, it can also be linked to supporting joint comfort and mobility over time.

MSM

Methylsulfonylmethane

MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is an organic sulfur compound that plays an important role in several physiological processes in the body. Sulfur is a key building block of amino acids and structural proteins such as keratin and collagen, which contribute to the strength and integrity of connective tissues including hooves, joints, skin, and tendons.

Through this structural role, MSM supports tissue quality and resilience, which is relevant for maintaining strong hooves and healthy joints, especially in horses exposed to physical stress or metabolic challenges.

In addition, sulfur is involved in metabolic pathways linked to the body’s antioxidant systems. These pathways support the processing of metabolic by-products and contribute to maintaining normal cellular balance. This makes MSM relevant in nutritional strategies aimed at supporting liver function, digestion, and overall metabolic stability.

Because of its dual role in both structural support and metabolic processes, MSM contributes to maintaining connective tissue health, digestive balance, and overall physiological resilience (Jiao et al., 2025; Marañón et al., 2008; Kalman, 2012).

Meadowsweet

Filipendula ulmaria

Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria) is a flowering herb traditionally used in herbal nutrition for its naturally occurring phenolic compounds, including salicylate derivatives and flavonoids. These compounds have been studied for their interaction with pathways involved in maintaining normal inflammatory balance and tissue comfort.

Maintaining healthy circulation is important for supplying nutrients and oxygen to connective tissues such as joints, tendons, and ligaments. Botanical ingredients that support circulation may therefore contribute to maintaining normal joint function and mobility.

Because of its traditional use and bioactive plant compounds, meadowsweet is sometimes included in nutritional formulations aimed at supporting joint comfort and helping maintain healthy circulation in animals with increased physical demands or age-related joint sensitivity. (Farzaneh, 2022)

Turmeric

Curcuma longa

Turmeric is used to support joint comfort because curcumin and related compounds help maintain a healthy inflammatory response. In dogs with osteoarthritis, controlled studies and veterinary research are emerging, including trials investigating turmeric-derived ingredients for mobility and comfort outcomes.

Turmeric can also support digestive health by helping maintain a balanced gut environment. Research suggests curcumin may influence the gut microbiome by supporting beneficial bacteria and helping reduce irritation in the intestinal lining, which can be helpful for overall gut resilience. Springer Nature LinkFrontiers, Scazzocchio et al. 2020, Andrews et. al. 2022

Boswellia (Indian frankincense)

Boswellia Serrata

Boswellia is used to support mobility and joint comfort in both dogs and horses because its boswellic acids help maintain a balanced inflammatory response, which can support more comfortable movement.

In dogs: Boswellia has been studied in osteoarthritis supplements, often as part of multi-ingredient formulas. Some randomized controlled trials report improvements in comfort and mobility based on owner observations and veterinary assessments. It is best used alongside a complete joint plan: healthy body weight, appropriate exercise, and veterinary guidance. Barrouin-Melo et al., 2022Multicenter RCT, 2025 (Frontiers in Veterinary Science)

In horses:Boswellia is commonly used to support joints and post-exercise comfort, especially in older horses or those in regular training. While horse-specific clinical studies are more limited than in dogs, its traditionaluseand the known activity ofboswellicacids make it a popular supportive botanical formaintainingfree, comfortable movement. As with dogs, it works best when the basics are right: a balancedration, correct training, good hoof care, and a sensible workload. Vita et al., 2023 (Life, MDPI)

Glucosamine

Glucosamine hydrochloride

Glucosamine is a naturally occurring amino monosaccharide that serves as a building block for glycosaminoglycans and other structural molecules in the body. Glycosaminoglycans are important components of connective tissues such as cartilage and also contribute to the structure of mucosal surfaces throughout the body.

These molecules help maintain the strength, elasticity, and structural integrity of connective tissues. In biological systems, glucosamine participates in pathways that support the synthesis and maintenance of these structural components, which are essential for maintaining normal tissue function.

Glycosaminoglycans and related molecules also contribute to the protective mucosal layers found in the gastrointestinal tract. These layers help maintain barrier integrity and support the interaction between the intestinal lining and the microbiome, which is important for digestive stability and overall physiological balance.

Because of its role as a structural precursor in connective tissues and mucosal systems, glucosamine is often included in nutritional formulations aimed at supporting tissue maintenance, gastrointestinal integrity, and overall physiological resilience. ScienceDirect

Diglycerides

Diglycerides of fatty acids

Diglycerides are naturally occurring lipid molecules composed of glycerol and two fatty acids. They are intermediate products in fat digestion and are commonly present in dietary fats and oils. In nutrition, they serve as a source of fatty acids that contribute to cellular metabolism and energy supply.

Lipids also play an important role in the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients such as vitamins A, D, and E, which are involved in maintaining connective tissues and joint health. Adequate lipid availability can therefore support the effective uptake of these nutrients in the body.

Because fatty acids contribute to normal cellular structure and metabolic balance, diglycerides are sometimes included in nutritional formulations designed to support joint tissues, connective structures, and overall physiological function in animals. (K. Lanchais, 2020)

Primary benefit

Lipid support for joint tissue and nutrient absorption

Calcium

Calcium

Calcium is an essential mineral that plays a key role in maintaining strong bones and overall structural support in the body. A healthy skeletal system is important for movement, stability, and joint function.

Beyond its role in bones, calcium is involved in muscle function and nerve signaling, helping support coordinated movement and normal physical activity.

Calcium also plays a role in normal cellular processes, including those involved in skin renewal and tissue maintenance. These processes contribute to maintaining healthy skin and overall physiological balance (Böswald, 2019; British Journal of Nutrition, 2011; Foods, 2025).

Primary benefit

Essential mineral that supports bone strength, muscle function, and overall physiological balance.
